2016 Diversity Visa program (DV-2016)

The Diversity Visa Program allows up to 50,000 eligible applicants every year to come to the United States under a lottery program to live and work in the United States permanently. Held annually, the Diversity Visa program makes visas available to applicants meeting strict but basic requirements. Applicants are selected from six vast geographic regions, including Africa, Asia, Europe, North America, Oceania, and South America.

Green Card Diversity Visa (DV) Basic Requirements

Applicants can enter the diversity lottery to apply for a green card if they were born in one of the geographic regions listed by the Diversity Visa program. Applicants must have at least a high school diploma or its equivalent. Within the last five years prior to applying, the applicant must have at least two years of work experience in an occupation requiring at least two years of training or experience. They must also obtain their green card within the same fiscal year they apply for it.

Green Card Diversity Visa (DV) Entitlements

United States lawful permanent residents, or “green card holders”, have the right to live and work in the United States permanently, travel to and from the United States, attend public schools and colleges and become a US citizen when eligible to do so.

The entry registration period for the 2016 Diversity Visa program (DV-2016) is between October 1, 2014 and November 3, 2014.
