What Is an I-131 Reentry Permit?

An I-131 reentry permit allows a permanent resident green card holder or permanent resident applicant to travel outside the U.S. for up to two years without U.S. Customs and Border Protection considering your residence to have been abandoned.

If you attempt to leave the country for over one year without filing for an I-131 reentry permit, you may be placed into removal proceedings upon your return. U.S. Customs and Border Protection take this as evidence that you abandoned permanent resident status.

How to Apply for an I-131 Reentry Permit in Florida

You must file Form I-131 along with a check made out to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. You must be present in the U.S. at the time of filing and submit to biometrics. USCIS may take up to six months or even longer to process your application for an I-131 reentry permit.
