DREAM Act Reintroduced in Congress

On Behalf of | May 10, 2011 | Immigration Law News

The Development, Relief and Education for Alien Minors (DREAM) Act was reintroduced into Congress today by Senator Dick Durbin, Representatives Howard Berman, Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, and other Congressional leaders. The DREAM Act passed the House of Representatives in November of 2010, but failed to pass the Senate.

If the DREAM Act becomes law, it will allow tens of thousands of undocumented young people to gain lawful immigration status. The DREAM Act would cover people under the age of 35 who came to the United States before they turned 16. They must have resided in the United States for at least five years, graduated from high school or passed an equivalency exam, have good moral character, and either attend college or enlist in the U.S. military for two years.
